The following Special Topics are approved for this minor:
Hitler and Nazi Germany and Comparative Genocide.
- Define the basic historical terms and concepts (including antisemitism) that explain the background to, and implementation of, the Holocaust in the context of modern world history.
- Understand the role of hate and intolerance in people and institutions that targeted Jews and other groups including political opponents, those deemed disabled, and members of the LGBTQ community.
- Analyze key aspects of the Holocaust as it relates to the broader field of genocide studies.
- Evaluate, compare, and contrast from multiple perspectives how different groups (e.g. victims, perpetrators, bystanders, survivors) were affected by, and helped carry out, the Holocaust.
- Think and write critically about the consequences of social exclusion, legalized discrimination and persecution, individual rights, and state sanctioned murder.
