Admission Requirements

First Time STudents applying to engineering science programs

All students admitted to Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering programs must successfully complete a minimum of four years of high school mathematics including a course that covers the topics of trigonometry or pre-calculus. Additionally, any students applying to the Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering programs must have completed at least one year of high school chemistry. High school physics is strongly recommended.

With standardized test scores: Applicants to B.S. Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering programs must have earned a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 (or GED average standard score of 510 in the 2002 format or 730 in the 2014 format with a Mathematical Reasoning sub-score of 190) along with minimum ACT math and composite scores of 22 or an SAT combined score of 1110 and a minimum SAT math score of 540.

No standardized test scores: Applicants to B.S. Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering) must have earned a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a B grade or higher in pre-calculus at the time of consideration. If a student is currently enrolled in a pre-calculus course at the time of application, the student will be admitted to the College of Engineering pre-major program. Admission to the applied program will be re-evaluated when final transcripts are received.

Any applicants who do not meet the program minimum admission requirements will be admitted to the College of Engineering pre-major program should they hold a 3.0 HS GPA and have achieved a B or better in Algebra II or their high school’s equivalent course. If these criteria are not met, applicants will be admitted to the Exploratory Studies program in University College. University College students can work toward meeting the engineering transfer requirements and transfer to the College of Engineering once these requirements are met.

FIRST TIME STUDENTS APPLYING TO ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS

All students admitted to Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or one of the Engineering Technology programs (Computer Science and Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology) must have completed a minimum of high school mathematics through Algebra II or their high school's equivalent course.

With standardized test scores: Applicants to B.S. Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science and Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology need a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 (or GED average standard score of 480 in the 2002 format or 700 in the 2014 format with a Mathematical Reasoning sub-score of 180). A minimum ACT composite score of 21 with a minimum ACT math score of 20 or an SAT combined score of 1080 with a minimum SAT math score of 520 is also required.

No standardized test scores: Applicants without standardized test scores require a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 and a B grade or higher in Algebra II.

Any applicants who do not meet the minimum admission requirements for Engineering Technology and related programs listed above will be admitted to the Exploratory Studies program in University College. University College students can work toward meeting the engineering technology transfer requirements and transfer to the College of Engineering once these requirements are met.

Transfer Students

Students transferring from other institutions must earn at least 32 cr hr of undergraduate credit in residence at The University of Toledo of which at least 14 cr hr must be in the major area. The remaining credit hours are to be in engineering topics or in other areas that satisfy degree requirements.

Engineering Science Programs: Transfer students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Science programs in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Mechanical Engineering must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 from all previous college or university work and have college credit equivalent to MATH 1850 and CHEM 1230, with grades of at least a C or higher. Transfers into Computer Science must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 from all previous college or university work and have college credit equivalent to MATH 1850 with a grade of C or higher.

Engineering Technology and related programs: Students transferring into the College of Engineering Information Technology, Cyber Security, Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology programs in Computer Science and Engineering Technology (CSET), Construction Engineering Technology (CET), Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) must have obtained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 from all previous college or university work.

  • For transfers into Construction Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology, equivalent credit for MATH 1330 or MATH 1340 with a grade of C or higher is required.
  • For transfers into Computer Science and Engineering Technology (CSET), Cyber Security, Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), and undecided Engineering Technology, MATH 1850 or MATH 2450 with a grade of C or higher is required.
