NSM 1000 Foundations of Academic Success for Science and Math Majors

Course will introduce new students to the University and college, help them develop skills to successfully transition from high school to college, provide them with information about their discipline and degree requirements, connect them to academic and campus resources, create a sense of belonging, and help students successfully navigate the first year of their academic journey.

NSM 1500 Building a Career in Science and Math

The second of a two-part introductory course sequence to help students successfully navigate the academic journey to prepare for a rich and rewarding career in a STEM field. This course focuses on career resources and professional development: including networking, internship and research opportunities, effective resume writing, professional communication, and preparing an academic plan of study consistent with career goals.

NSM 2000 Professional Career Preparation in Math and Science

Career self-assessment and planning, identifying and exploring career options aligned with math and science degrees, development of tools and strategies for successfully obtaining jobs and internships in math, science and related fields.

NSM 3000 Transformative Ideas in Science
[4 credit hours]
A broad-ranging exploration of how major scientific discoveries and advances over the past several centuries have transformed and shaped modern science, and through that, the modern world. Lectures on transformative topics from all disciplines in NSM, an introduction to critical thinking skills and their application to the pursuit of scientific ‘truth’, and training and practice in writing about science.
